InteliCAD Time Study

InteliCAD vs. Hand Drafting, Takeoff, and Input to Plasma Cutter

In order to place a value on any computerized or automated process, you must determine what that process will do for you.

To calculate the value of InteliCAD to our users we ran a sample job through an extensive study, keeping track of time as we went.

Our hand draftsman has 3 years of high school drafting, 15 hours of college drafting, 25 years of drafting experience and 30 years of sheet metal experience.

Our CAD operator has 1 year of high school drafting, 3 years of part time CAD experience and no sheet metal experience.

Both drawings were done from scratch, using no tracings or overlays. The hand generated drawing time included grouping fittings for tag numbering, hand takeoff, sketching of fittings & connectors, and hand entry of fittings into the plasma cutter for fabrication. (All of these things are done automatically with the InteliCAD software.)

The CAD drawing was NOT done the most advantageous way. Usually a drawing is brought into the computer system from floppy disk, and only the ductwork and grilles are redrawn using the engineer's ductwork as a template. For this time study, none of the normal advantages were used. Everything was done from scratch.

The hand draftsman completed his work in 31.5 hours. The InteliCAD operator finished in 3.5 hours.
